NAM 08 concluded a success

National Astronomical Meeting 2008 concluded successfully at 6.00 pm on 29th of November 2008 at the auditorium of SLAAS. The followings were proposed to be carried out as the Sri Lankan equivalent of IYA 2009 worldwide activities.

  • A virtual network of School-based Astronomical Associations
  • Launch of a website for the functionality of IYA-09 based SL activities
  • Implementing a 100 hour observation session throughout the island from 02nd to 5th April 2009 in accordance with its international counterpart
  • Special workshop for school teachers in March
  • An advanced observation campaign, focusing the partial solar eclipse
  • Robortification of a telescope, enabling it to be remote-controlled via internet
  • Rocket launching competition
  • Subtitling Carl Sagen's "Cosmos" series to Sinhalese to be telecast in National TV in 2009
